Making Babies (and Boundaries)

maternity leave announcement

Hey there beautiful! If you’ve visited my site recently, you may have noticed all of the maternity leave announcements I’ve plastered everywhere. Yes, I officially start my maternity leave soon, which is a weird thing as a solo entrepreneur and over a year into adapting my business through this pandemic. Our little peanut hasn’t arrived yet, but after some serious thought, I knew that it was time.

There are always a million things on the to-do list when you run your own business, and I definitely did not get through all of them before taking leave. Putting away all that guilt, I decided to use the rest of my pregnancy mentally and physically preparing for baby’s arrival. Mr. Birth Boss and I decided to delay moving until September (yup, moving with a newborn is NOT on my recommended fourth-trimester plan), so we’re keeping busy setting up our nursery nook and building all the baby gear. My body really changed around 30 weeks, so I’ve been devoting my time to spinning babies exercises and trying my best to stay comfortable in various positions on the birth ball. Plus, there are meals to prep, books to read, and in all honesty, being such a go-go-go person, I needed to literally pencil in time to slow down and emotionally connect with my partner and little one before life changes in a major way.

SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

I wanted to give you all a heads up about my maternity leave so you can know what to expect from me over the next few months. The plan is to update you all on my own journey when I can, but take the pressure off deadlines. I also will be pausing working with clients for 3 months.

As a doula, I’m really used to serving others, so pivoting to serve myself and pause this business I’ve worked so hard to build is going to be a big challenge for me. However, I’ve also seen what a huge transition welcoming a little one can be, and while I know the infant care tips & tricks, I also have seen what happens when you try to do it all (and it ain’t pretty). Honouring this sacred window is something I want to be excited for, not scramble through. I know I won’t get this time with my family back, so taking a step away is what feels right.

During my Maternity Leave:

  • I will post updates on my blog about my personal journey

  • I will share the quick & dirty behind-the-scenes to Instagram (so be sure you’re following me there!)

  • I will be pausing work with clients until September ‘21

  • I will be checking my email & messages once a week to every other week, so please be patient with me!

The plan is to return in full force in September ‘21.
Thank you so much to all of my friends, family, and followers for your love & honouring of our special time. I look forward to connecting with you soon!
